Lead me not into temptation...

One of these opened today at an intersection 7 minutes from my house. An intersection we drive through several times a week.

Frosty mugs of root beer. Onion rings. Cheeseburgers.

A&W, why must you torment me so? You're my only fast food weakness--I can live without the rest. I gladly ignore Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, Subway and Dairy Queen. My heart? It yearns to drive in and hook that orange plastic tray to my driver's side window. My tongue? Aches to eat the salty/greasy onion rings and wash them down with the sweet syrupy fizz of a Mama-sized mug of root beer.

And the brand-spanking-new A&W that just opened? Has car hops. Oh the humanity.

Day 3 of 29 Day Giving Challenge: I agreed to take on a shift at Parent/Teacher conferences to help out a frazzled mom. I wrote 2 notes of encouragement & mailed them.

  1. I'm not going to encourage you to be strong - there's something I just can't resist - the glorious french fry.

  2. Hooray for both the notes of encouragement and A&W. We used to hang out at the one on Park St. in Madison in high school (now a Famous Dave's rib joint).
You made me want, NAH, must have an frosty mug and an order of onion rings. I'll have to drive out of town to get it though. Maybe that will stop me.

  3. I haven't eaten at an A&W since I was four, but I can still remember how much I loved it.

  4. I have the BEST childhood memories of A & W. Love it. You poor dear, you. That's temptation! Today, I'm giving 1.5 personal of my 3 available leave days (the max one can give) to a fellow employee with colon cancer whose used up all his time. Never met him. Thanks for the inspiration -- I read your blog just as the email request came through!

  5. I've never eaten there. But we have a NW favorite (Burgerville) just a few blocks from my home. Heaven!

  6. I am drooling for some A&W food... with carhops. Although I am a biiiiiig McDonald's fan. I crave the flavor of the Big Mac sauce. You've put bad thoughts in my head that will simmer there all afternoon. Mmmmmmmmmm!

Where do you live in WI? We live in De Pere (Green Bay). So nice to discover you today! Stop by my blog.

  8. I haven't eaten at an A&W since I was a kid. We don't have any around these parts. And I think I'm kinda glad about that. ;)
    So good. :)

  11. We don't have an A&W in town, but it sounds like such would be a serious danger to my waistline and my arteries. "Yay!" for you on the giving. What a fun challenge to meet!

  12. You forgot about root beer floats - Those are the best and the worst for my waist ;-)

  13. You're a better woman than me if you only have one fast food temptation. Me? I can't resist Dairy Queen, Sonic, or A&W. Luckily, they are not nearly as prevalent as other joints.

  14. Sweet Baby Moses! I would weigh 300 pounds if one of those was within a 10-mile radius of my house. Seriously!

  15. I have never, ever eaten at an A&W. I think I've got to remedy that.

And how generous of you to help out a mom in need!

  16. The closest A&W is 150 miles a way-we go everytime we go skiing. Their fries are THE best.

  19. SO. JEALOUS.

We only have one A&W left by us - no drive up, no car hops - heck, you can't even get in and out of the parking lot easily!

    I'm comin' over for lunch!

  21. A&W!!! I was a carhop there my senior year in high school and 2 years of college!
I even dressed up as the Root Bear for special events.
Every Friday night my best friend Jeanine and I would finish our shifts and eat Fried Clam Rolls, Onion Rings and Coffee Shakes. We didn't know the meaning of High Cholesterol Levels back then!
