better than Folgers in my cup

Why yes, the white spots on the lawn are dandelion heads waiting to be wished on and blown into the wind.

I rolled out of bed this fair morning and went to my favorite window in the house. It overlooks the front yard with a prime view of two flower beds. The lilacs, phlox and tulips are in full bloom--all shades of purple, glorious and magical to my eye. Through the screen I inhaled the heady scent of lilacs (with pungent notes of manure because hey, we're in the country). Then I noticed the hummingbird feasting on the lilac bush nearest me. I didn't get a picture of it, but it was nice to see the hummingbirds are back.

It's moment like those that make the blisters on my hands and my sore shoulders worth the effort out there.
Spill it, reader. What's your favorite thing to look at first thing in the morning?

  3. Kitty, snoring peacefully in her bed with her arms over her head and her hair in major disarray.

It's The perfect picture of quiet contentment.

  4. Your flowers are beautiful! I was just thinking how lucky you are to have your lilacs blooming already, but then I looked out my front window to see brown shriveled stalks where my blooms had been...how'd I miss that?!? I'm so excited that this year my flower beds actually look really good this year...the pains of buying tiny plants for a buck from a woman down the road...but man, was it worth the wait!!!

  7. We don't get much light through the eastern side of our house, due to our position partly down a hill, but at certain times of year the morning sun will come beaming through the stained glass window in our stair landing and I love to see that.

  8. A quiet sunrise....I love mornings. There isn't much better. I can hear the birds singing before I get out of bed. With the windows open, they keep me company all morning long. If I'm not getting ready for work....stepping outside on the deck and breathing in the fresh morning air is just grand!

  9. I have French doors in my bedroom. I love waking up and seeing deer on the hill in the yard. But, it's usually the squirrels and they're usually screeching at me to put the seeds out.

    Beautiful picture!

  10. The first thing I do in the morning is make coffee and sit either in front of a window with a view or outside. Finches, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, squirrels, foxes, and the occasional bear keep me company. Best way to start the day!

  12. My cat on my belly or the dogs curled up outside my bedroom door, or . . . heck there are too many things to mention - but it's always extra special when the sun is shining here in PO

  13. I love your view!
I just bought my house last year and I still wake up every day and think of how great it is to have my own spacious bathroom. And when I am headed to bed and I pass through the kitchen for a glass of water, I just stop and look around in wonderment that this is MINE!!

  14. I sit in my comfy living room chair with a cup of coffee. It faces the sliders out to our treehouse/porch. I can see my big city tomato plant and beyond it is the little pond with the fountain behind our building.

  15. oh, it is lovely! thanks for posting that beautiful picture.

the dandelions made me laugh. I spent an hour yesterday mowing our dandelion field ;) now at least it somewhat resembles a lawn.

  16. Well, I don't really look at anything in the morning since I usually roll out of bed with just enough time to shower and sprint off to work...but I do often take one short moment to peer down my side yard as I am pulling out of the driveway.

The side yard is a narrow alley of verdant greens - trees hanging over the neighbor's fence, long grass, and my own overgrown bushes. I love my yard - it's tiny but in the spring and summer it is lush and green and private.

  17. On rare occasions (because I'm NOT a morning person) I see the sunrise out my bedroom window. I usually don't appreciate it because I don't want to be up at that hour of the morning. I prefer sunsets!

The best view is usually watching my youngest sleep after I tunr over and realize she snuck into bed with us at some point during the night. She likes to sleep in with me on weekends. I may miss that the most as they grow up.

  18. The bunnies in the backyard! We are the only ones on the block without a dog, so the wild bunnies like to feast on our backyard grass. As long as they leave my garden alone, that's fine with me.

  21. To be very honest I'm not a big fan of mornings lol. Since it's summer in my house (I work from home and husband is a teacher) I have MAYBE been getting up around 10-11 lately. I would rather never see morning haha.
