guilty pleasures

Despite popular perception, I'm not all about whole-grain organic, literary, tasteful and intellectual pursuits. We all have our guilty pleasures, things we love but don't always admit to in mixed company. Mine tend toward high-calorie and low-brow.

One very violent TV series.

The cocoa butter smell of suntan lotion.

I do, I love hair metal.

And disco. Who doesn't smile when they hear disco?

And these. I don't buy them often, but they taste like childhood. I never pass up pistachio fluff with graham cracker crust either.

Comedies--a pastoral British drama is always lovely, but I watch equal parts Will Farrell and Ben Stiller AND Colin Firth and James McAvoy.

Reading the tabloid covers while waiting in line at the grocery store.

Orange soda.

Laser tag.

Spill it, reader. What are your guilty pleasures?

  1. Ah, where to begin! Haha. Btw, I love the orange soda mention. I developed a guilty pleasure for it when they had fountain sodas available in my college cafeteria. There was something so retro and refreshing about it! Others would be listening to "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" on repeat and DEEP FRIED EGG ROLLS. The end. Oh wait, and thanks for sharing!

  2. What a great post topic. I just may copy cat you some time, if you don't mind. :)

    Grape Nehi.
    Bacon. Lot's of bacon.
    Hmmm...you've got me thinking...

  3. I am hooked on horror films. I've watched all of the 'Saw' films.

I also watch reality shows but don't tell most of my friends.

I love staying in my jammies for several days and watching movies and eating frozen pizza.

I'm a fast food junkie! Love McDonalds!

  4. Oh, definitely laser tag!! :)

Eating slices of watermelon with so much gusto it's dripping down my face.

50's dancing songs...Right Back Where We Started From

  5. Bon Jovi....I love Jon

    Ice Cream

Reality Shows...I really like Dog the Bounty Hunter--

  6. Harlequin Romances, Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls, and a good Green Acres/Petticoat Junction/Beverly Hillbillies marathon.

  7. Star Trek! I recently caught up with several seasons, when we got our TV. It was my laundry-folding thing. Then I unplugged the TV.

Long baths with a book. Not so guilty though, because the boys hop in when I'm done.

Eating a lot of the cheese sauce before supper. You start with just a taste to make sure it's ok, then you lick the spoon, then you get a new spoon and scrape all around the edges, then you dip random things in, and by the time supper is ready you're FULL of cheese sauce! Sigh! For dessert, I'm having red wine and bourneville chocolate, at the same time. Absolute pleasure.

  8. I agree with "mom on the run" in guilty pleasures. i could have written it myself!

  9. "The Real Housewives" - ALL of them - I can't help myself!

  10. Rosamund Pilcher books

    Frosted cookies

    Chocolate milk

    80s pop

  11. Storm Chasers.
    Post Secrets.
    Cake Wrecks website.

    Great Post!

  12. My son never had a Twinkie until he caught one once at a baseball game. He wasn't so sure about it until he tasted it.

I'm probably one of the oldest people who watch Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant. I love those shows.

  13. I was actually really disappointed when I had a Twinkie as an adult.
That said, Oreos are still pretty tasty!

I second 16 and Pregnant/Teen Mom. Also, Ann Rule true life crime stories (hangs head in shame).

  14. Chocolate! Coffee, of course.
I liked your orange soda picture; Hubs & daughter like Stewart's key lime.

I don't know what else to add- I have so many vices! All fun vices, of course. Of course!

  15. I read the tabloids at the supermarket too :-)

And romance novels, popcorn with real butter, Milk Duds and fried egg sandwiches with cheese and mayo on white bread. Please don't tell anyone ;-)

    xo jj

  16. For a minivan mom with college kids - I'd have to say vampire and zombie books/movies. Werewolves too. Chocolate ice cream...to be honest, all chocolate: pudding, pie, candy...

  17. I watch (said in shame) the Real World/Road Rules competitions every season. Every episode. I know all of those trashy people and their trashy personalities.
And I recently started watching Full Throttle Saloon. Horrible show, more trashy people, pointless...but wonderful.

And we can't have peanut M&M's in the house, as I inhale them like a dyson. It's disgusting. I can't leave them alone for ANYTHING.

  18. Hedonist here. No guilt to my pleasure, ladies!

  19. Enrique Iglesias. Cheese sandwiches. Apple (or pear) cider -- the adult kind. And turkey bacon... even though they say it's worse than pork bacon. I can't help it.

Glad to hear you're a regular gal. ;)

  20. Little sneaky pleasures... Hm. Blogging, John Denver, and blueberry buckle baby food. (That last one was from a LONG time ago!)
