REVEAL!

We recently painted a couple rooms, including our ugly white living room, which naturally led to a strong desire for new furniture and carpet.

But it's silly to buy new furniture when you have 3 boys, age 6, 8 and 12. Boys are hard on furniture. We'll wait a few more years. But my discontent prompted me to look closer at this cabinet:

And this cabinet:

A little too "country" for my taste.

Now

(drum roll, please)

Fresh, new, less "countrified" and more pleasing to my eye. It's not often that I get a picture of what I want in my head and find myself able to pull it off to my satisfaction. Amazing what a couple coats of fresh paint can do to a couple of old cabinets.

Spill it, reader. What have you painted over lately?

  1. Very nice, my dear! I am afraid I will not be able to do any sort of revealing like that any time soon. You see, my husband is a wood snob. He'll have my head if I paint over real wood.

It is what it is. I have learned to deal with it. There are worse things in life...

  4. Ooooh, very nice.

I don't have any paint projects going on, but am pondering some in my head.

  5. I have So many painting projects going on that I don't even know where to begin! Flea market treasures, stole an old curio from my dad's garbage pile (it is amazing..just really rough) and a handful of chairs that I'm going to make into planters. Now, if only we'd have a couple of days of sun so that I can drag all this junk outside!!!!!

  8. Looks fantastic! Fresh paint makes such a big difference. We haven't painted anything in so long... I'm walking through my house in my head wondering what I could update! ;-)

  9. I'm not that talented but my sister is. She grabs furniture that people leave out for the trash and repaints them. She has taken a painting class and does decorative painting on the cast away furniture.

  12. I really like how painting also de-clutters. I could use that kind of painting around here!

  13. I LOVE this!!! Great job.
I think about painting EVERY day. I am totally painting something this summer...maybe the living room? Or the kitchen...I hope my painting makeover turns out as amazing as yours did!

  14. Very nice!

I once chemically removed five -- FIVE! -- layers of paint from an almost unreasonably wood-trimmed kitchen. Took me almost a full year.

Had I known when I started...

But it turned out really sweet. :-)

  16. Well done! (And I know how hard boys are on the furniture!)

We recently painted our powder room a sunny turquoise (over ecru). Love it!

  20. I painted The Girl's room P-I-N-K last week, and I mean in a big way. The sisters were coming, and there were grimy footprints on the walls that no amount of scrubbing could take off.

I did paint a tiny table white when the kids were small, and stenciled butterflies and tulips on them. Pretty. :)

  21. Very nice work! You created a whole new look.

I painted over myself by buying some new clothes. I haven't shopped since 2008. (Before what I call "My Great Depression" began.)

I can't wait to wear my new stuff. :)
