$3 / gallon ice cream bucket

That's the going rate to hire a kid to pick beans these days. They're making $3/bucket for trimming the ends, too. All three of them, sitting on the porch watching Shark Week and earning their spending money. Best bean season ever.

Best money I've spent all summer, too.

Spill it, reader. What's the best deal you've found this summer?

  1. I had to do all my beans myself. Bummer!

  2. Oh my gawd...do they hire out to pick? I'd pay those three dudes to pick my beans (and cukes). I'd also pay one to come help take off the ends when I'm canning.

Let me know if you hire them out. I'll supply treats when they are done working.

  3. I paid my kids one DQ Blizzard each to help me with a big yard project. I spent about $7 and considered it a great deal.

  4. Boychild helped me cut wood for a bookcase on Saturday. He caught lumber as I cut it with the circular saw, so it didn't crash to the pavement.

This cost me 25 cents a cut, plus a completion bonus of two bucks.

Bonus for me: Boychild isn't afraid of the circular saw anymore. And he looked cute in the soundproof earmuffs and goggles. ;)

  6. do you deliver? lol! the crops around here didn't fare too well with the hot and dry weather.

best deal... not sure what the best deal i've gotten lately, unless it would be me talking my insurance company into paying for my BAHA. that was an extremely good deal.

  7. I love the boy sitting around in trunks and shirtless... it looks like my house! (I especially like the shark trunks. Very thematic).

  8. I've been paying in baked yummies, kinda. I can't believe all those beans! I get a few each week from the local organic delivery guy, they only take me a while to shell, and I like doing it.

    I like your toes!

  10. Awesome! I remember sitting around my grandma's old kitchen table with a mountains of beans spilling over it....the faster we snapped the quicker we could head out to the lake (man, those had to have been some horrible shaped beans!)

  11. I got "Magic Earring Ken" for a mere $25. Score! And I do not even collect dolls...it was just too good and too rare to pass up!

    check google images or Ebay.

MATTEL recalled Magic Earring Ken after determining he was gay.

  12. My beans are going sllllooooowly. I keep buying beans (green and yellow, Packer style) from the farmers' market because I'm afraid my beans won't have any kind of yield.
The tomatoes, on the other hand, look great!
