we're that family

the one that quotes movies. All the time. We have our favorite lines:

"The sun is shining, the tank is clean ..."
"You're killing me, Smalls!"
"Squirrel!"
"Go ahead. Make my day."
"My Precious."
"These aren't the droids you're looking for."
"As you wish."
"I do believe in fairies!"
"For Narnia!" (usually declared with a flourish of sword, spoon or plastic light saber)
"To the Batmobile!"
"'Ello, Poppet"
"You want s'more? S'more of what?"
"Bond. James Bond."
"Fish are friends, not food."
"Just keep swimming."
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"The Force is strong with this one."
"Help me, Obi-Wan. You're my only hope."
" I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy. Come on, Squishy Come on, little Squishy. Ow. Bad Squishy, bad Squishy."
"To action! We surrender! Not that action, you idiots! The kung-fu thing!"
"Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine."
"Cheese, Grommit!"
"Skadoosh!"
"Oh, I do love a bit of gorganzola!"
"Sharkbait. Hoo ha ha!"
"You dum-dum. You give me gum-gum."
"You are a sad, strange little man."
"Way to go, I-Da-Ho!"
"That was totally wicked!"
"Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave."

We do use original dialogue, but you're guaranteed to hear any of the above quotes throughout the average week at Chez Green Girl.

Spill it, reader. What movie quotes are in your clan's running dialogue?

25 comments:

  1. "Robin! Hand me the Shark-Repellent Bat Spray!" (From the old, old Batman which we laughed all the way through.)

"Quick! To the Bat-Fax!" (Actually a Calvin and Hobbes line.)

    "DIE, Rebel Scum!"

"Use the forks, Luke" (to encourage finer table manners)

OMG, "Just Keep Swimming!" and "Yeah, I'm a natural blue"

We SING all the musical stuff, and hum the themes: Indiana Jones if we're having an adventure, etc.

    "Houston, we have a problem"

Old Muppet Show lines, "THIS is a CATASTROPHE!" All: "Mwap-mwap-mwap-mwaaaah!"

This is fun! I'll ask the boys when they get home!

  2. Oh heck - It's scary that I knew so many of those quotes.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for" is in constant use.

So is "Squirrel!" Moe is right to the window on that one.

  3. "I'll be back." Said in best Arnold voice.

  4. We are a movie-quoting family as well. My husband's favorite movie (Stripes) he can pretty much quote line by line. "You can't go - all the plants will die!" Now I'll be thinking about this all day trying to recall the ones we use on a regular basis!

  5. We do some movie quotes as well --definitely "These aren't the droids you're looking for", and recently "Stay in the car" from a tv show. However, we quote (sing) more song phrases than movie dialog. Two that are heard often:

"No, no, no, I don't smoke it no more, I'm tired of ending up on the floor"

"Everybody plays the fool some time"

  6. We're a Scooby Doo family mostly.

"Zoiks!" and "Jeepers" are completely normal words in our house.

  7. I am known to frequently (and embarrassingly) launch into song, usually from Broadway musicals (which makes it even more embarrassing), at the slightest thing that reminds me of whatever song it is. We trend toward quotes from Veggie Tales, the Jabberwock (okay, it's a poem, not a movie), The Wizard of Oz, and whatever musical the high school is presenting.

"If I only had a brain"

"Keep walking, but you won't knock down our wall."

"Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of hungry men."

"You know that in love you can forgive; it is the only way to live."

"If I were King of the Forest..."

    "O frabjous day! Callou, callay!"

    That's enough. I'll stop.

  8. OH Heavens, too many to mention, but "Squirrel!" is top on our list these days.

  9. Oh gosh, we quote a lot of the same movies. Why am I not surprised?

  10. Sadly, I only know a fraction of those quotes, although I'm sure I've heard all of them at some time.... I am going to have to think about quotes we use often in our home.

  11. "It looks like two pigs....fighting under a blanket"

"Nothing I like better than a good piece of A$$"

"Just tease it and make it look like a brown football helmet"

"Not to my mumma's a-baby boy"

"So I says that good...one less thing"

    "15 schnitzengruebers are my limit"

    "Armani don't make polyester"

"No...NO! I said two hundred fifty a head"

    "The Maanu...The Maanu...remind me...oh yeah..the menu"

we love to quote movies too...all.the.time.

  12. We are all about the song. My children have found, that everything they have ever said, my husband and I can change into a song we know. Its a Tragedy.....

  13. And that's just a few of the many...now that we're adults, my fam tends to quote the inappropriate ones from movies like Blazing Saddles....we can be so classy, but at times, that class just melts right off of us.

  14. "This is your badness level, it's unusually high for someone your size"

  15. Run Forrest, RUN!

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

    Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.
(is one of our all-time favorites!)

It so fluffy, I'm gonna DIE!
    (from Despicable Me)

You're gonna need a bigger boat
    (Jaws)

  16. Oh, we use so many of those same ones, also! We also say a lot from Chevy Chase's Funny Farm movie like, "Cue the deer!" or "That's no bridge, it's termites holding hands."

I also love it when Anakin Skywalker loses half of the ship and says, "I think we lost something."

  17. LOL - Star Trek... I'm just an old country doctor!

All of the commercial jingles get sung around here. Isaiah knows them all and it's hysterical.

    Houston, we have a problem!

  18. My oldest daughter will say "Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave."often it is one of the favorite sayings.....

I know I have a number of movie quotes that I say a lot but right now I can not think of a single one "bugga".............

  19. The Teenager likes to speak in a character's voice (think Roz from Monsters, Inc.) and he is quite good at it. My personal favorite is "You can do eet!" from The Waterboy. Terrible movie, but for some reason that line sticks in my head and I use it with Teen Angel a lot. Since Teen Angel is non-verbal, he points a lot. Most of the time with the "wrong" finger, which we try to dissuade. We call it his Jedi finger, as if he's using "the force" to get what he wants.

  20. We're that family, too. "Just keep swimming" is one I say to myself all the time! Some of our other favorites -

"It's not easy having a good time."
    "We're in a tight spot!"
    "We are wasting valueless time."
    "He's bonafide."

  21. Just today I was describing the way my boss was interacting with me over something he'd failed to supply me with--"These aren't the droids you're looking for."

We seem to do more TV/commercial lines. Forever it was "Ichiro is number one! Anybody complain?"

  22. Current favorite movie quotes used around the house:
"Turn to the right" (Said in a Raising Arizona sort of way)
"Smile and wave boys, smile and wave"
    "Shiitake mushrooms!"
"Once again, my life was saved by the miracle of lasagna"

Lately we're also on a Lewis Carroll kick and quote lots from Jabberwocky and other Alice poems. Carroll is surprisingly catchy.

"Come to my arms my beamish boy!"
"So rested he by the TumTum tree.."
    etc.. ;-)

  23. Hate to admit it, but the fave movie quoted around here is Dodgeball. SUCH a boy movie! I recently introduced my gang to Bill and Ted's excellent adventure, so I'm also hearing a lot of "Ted. Don't be dead, dude."
