summertime and a gidget dress

Remember this dress?  My coveted Gidget dress arrived yesterday and I loveitloveitloveit.  It's the perfect length and fits perfectly.

Gidget Dress - Dresses - Dresses, Skirts & Skorts - Title Nine

And my gardener's tan looks good with these colors.  Now there's the small matter of footwear ...  It's tough to find cute sandals when you have wide feet.  I'm usually stuck sporting Jesus sneakers like Birkenstocks.  (No, I do not wear them with socks.)  Our oldest of a dozen nieces and nephews has a graduation party this weekend so I am inspired to brush the dirt off my knees and palms and head to Joseph's Shoes.  And if I'm out shopping, there's a kid who needs baseball pants and another kid who needs a birthday gift and a dishwasher that needs detergent.

We're chomping at the bit for school to wrap up for summer vacation.  Because I'm a list-y kind of gal, we will make a Summer 2012 Bucket List.  Mr. B has recommended a trip to Whitefish Dunes--I'll be curious to see how their list will change as the boys are older.  I'm hopeful that Chuck E Cheese won't make the cut.  We're old enough to venture further--maybe a road trip to Chicago?  Or Lake Superior?  And of course we'll have pool parties, bonfires and camp-outs on that bucket list--and some Mom-Approved activities like summer reading.

Spill it, reader.  What's on your Summer 2012 Bucket List?

  1. The Shedd Aquarium. Math practice with Kahn Academy. Taking the Milwaukee ferry one direction when we go to Michigan to see the grandparents. That's all we've got so far.

  2. It's so cute! Do you rock the pigtails too? I too have the wide foot problem -- please show off the cute sandals if you find them!

  3. My list also includes the dunes. We've taken the girls the last two years, so now I think we have to go. We're also going to visit Wollersheim Winery. We'll be heading to the Twin Cities in late June. I also hope to get to northern Wisconsin, maybe to see the shipwreck museum.

  4. My husband and I might have an unprecedented 5 days with no kids at home. We are also thinking of going to Chicago. But so far I am having trouble believing that those 5 days will actually happen, so we haven't planned anything!

  5. I REALLY like that dress and hope you will post a photo of yourself wearing it. It's so 'Gidget'.

No Bucket List here... we take life day by day.

  6. On the summer To Do list:
    intern for the Girl Scouts
two classes - Leadership in Small Groups and The Science of Food
beg, plead, and grovel for a part-time job that works with my fall schedule

I have wide feet, too, and I am always on the hunt for CUTE shoes of all types. Lately, I am a fan of Sofft, Taos (I bought http://www.taosfootwear.com/shoes/spring/trophy/ in black a few weeks ago and I LOVE them), Clarks, and Naturalizer.

  7. Do take a pic of yourself in it, I'd love to see it in action!

Summer starts late here because school doesn't get out until July but we're looking forward to spending our weekends until then going biking lots - along the river, in the country, in Germany and maybe a little bit in Austria along the Danube (nothing like small countries to cover lots of ground ;-). When summer rolls around we'll head to the States for a bit to visit family!

  9. Beach, lake, the bay, pool time.

Last night I think my husband made plans with his favorite bromance to go spend a week of our kid free time while she's at camp to go help him with his new house addition while I help his wife with their new kid addition.

  10. Oh my gosh, that dress is so CUTE! I can't wait to see what shoes you find to go with it.

Our summer plans... well, you know the biggest part. But before that, one girl is going to summer school in order to get a jump on 8th grade, while the other one is going to a couple of camps. I'll also be hosting a Derfwad gathering when Mrs. G. rolls into my town. (You should totally come down here for that.) Also, lots of running and plenty of time at the pool.

  11. I love the color blocking trend in clothing. So flattering! And I love the colors on that one! :)
I CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL SUMMER!!!!!
I feel like I am the kid in school, not my kids. I have been helping the boys with some major school projects that are coming due and I'm spent. Summer please!!!
I think we are doing some road tripping this summer. Six Flags, maybe. Definitely Bay Beach- we've never been there!!! Lots of swimming, and biking, and fishing!!!! WOOHOO!!!

  14. Road trips are on my summer bucket list. These might be practical road trips - visiting a training center for the blind, for example - but they're still road trips.

Oh, that dress? Several shades of awesome.
